The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) in education demands student adaptation, making academic resilience a critical factor in facing new learning challenges. This study aims to analyze the academic resilience of high school students in Bandar Lampung within the context of AI-based learning through the lens of Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory, focusing on the roles of self-efficacy, social support, and behavioral experiences.
This qualitative case study employed semi-structured interviews with students and teachers, classroom observations, and self-efficacy questionnaires. Participants included 20 students and 5 teachers from Bandar Lampung high schools who had utilized AI platforms such as ChatGPT or adaptive learning tools. Data were analyzed thematically and supported by descriptive statistics.
The findings revealed that students' academic resilience is shaped through dynamic interactions between self-efficacy beliefs, environmental feedback (from teachers and peers), and successful experiences with AI. Key barriers included low self-confidence in using technology and limited digital literacy. The strongest supporting factors were collaborative learning practices and technical training provided by schools. These results reinforce Social Cognitive Theory's proposition of triadic reciprocal causation in digital education contexts.
This study provides both theoretical and practical implications, It expands the application of Social Cognitive Theory in AI-based education, particularly regarding the dynamics of self-efficacy and digital learning environments, Schools should integrate psychosocial-based AI literacy training to enhance students' self-belief and establish collaborative support systems between teachers and students, and Recommendations are provided for educational policymakers to design curricula that combine technical AI skills with psychological resilience building.
