ICSA: 3rd International Conference on Sustainable Agriculture

The Department of Agriculture (DOA) Sabah has been producing tissue culture planting materials since 1996 under the Seventh Malaysia Plan (7th MP, 1996-2000). The objective is to use the in vitro culture technique to produce planting materials for internal research projects, conservation projects, and commercial production. Selected and healthy explants were obtained from the germplasm collection of several Agricultural Research Centers, DOA Sabah. All explants were cultivated through in vitro culture technique, assessed both in the laboratory and in the field prior to being distributed for DOA Sabah’s projects and revenue. A total of 10 formulations have been developed between 1996 and 2023 to produce over 190,000 of tissue culture planting materials such as banana, pineapple, orchid, oil palm, potato, and ginger and distributed over the state. Tissue culture technique has enhanced the production of planting materials for mass and commercial production in DOA Sabah.
