Description

This lifelong learning initiative at UTM establishes a sustainable educational ecosystem through a four-phase developmental model, strategically aligned with the 10-10 MySTIE Framework and global ESG principles to drive national digital transformation. Phase 0: Strategic Readiness The journey commenced with the "Innovate, Educate, Lead" Train the Trainers (ToT) workshop. This phase operationalized the Governance (G) pillar of ESG by establishing a structured knowledge-management system, equipping university educators, students, and assistant engineers with advanced technical mastery in sensor technology and next-generation computing using the TinkerKit educational board and Tinkercode platforms. Phase 1 & 2: Diagnosis and scalable innovation in the subsequent phase, 482 students and teachers across Malaysia—including Sabah and Sarawak—applied Design Thinking skills and IoT technology to address sustainable development goals (SDGs). By ensuring geographic and demographic inclusivity, the program addressed the social (S) pillar of ESG, bridging the digital divide. Out of this cohort, 102 groups were selected for their potential to contribute to the socio-economic drivers of the MySTIE framework through innovative problem-solving. Phase 3 & 4: Mentorship and AI mastery stages fostered the "Kolej Akademia" spirit, a service-learning model where initial trainees transitioned into mentors. This phase directly supports the Malaysia MADANI vision of Ihsan (Compassion) and Kemampanan (Sustainability) through peer-to-peer volunteerism. The program culminated in the integration of Raspberry Pi and AI enhancement, pushing the boundaries of edge computing. By entrusting the 40 finalist groups with developing AI-driven prototypes, the initiative contributes to the national goal of technological self-reliance. Conclusion: By evolving participants—from university engineers to school students—from learners into mentors, this initiative ensures a continuous cycle of knowledge transfer. This model successfully harmonizes technical mastery with ESG-driven social impact, creating a robust foundation for a value-based, high-tech Malaysian economy.
