Description

The Airlangga Psych Internship Program is designed to enhance the relevance of Universitas Airlangga psychology graduates’ competencies to the industrial world. This program is a follow-up to the feedback from stakeholders who expect that graduates are expected to improve their skills in applying digital technology to core psychology services, namely psychological assessment and intervention. To bridge this gap, a digital psychology bootcamp was initiated in 2023 in accordance with hexa-helix, a collaboration model that involve six parties namely government, media, regulation, academic, industry, community. The program is implemented over one semester covering two main activities: a four-weeks of pre-placement lecture and a four-months of internship. Entrepreneurs are also invited to share their experiences in starting and developing businesses, particularly those related to psychology services. The internship is conducted with partners from four areas of psychology services: health, community, workplace, and education. During the internship, students work on a final project to apply psychological assessment and develop digital psychological interventions under the guidance of lecturers from the campus and practitioners from the internship location. The program was attended by 80 students in 2023, 100 students in 2024, and 130 students in 2025. The end-of-semester evaluation showed that the Airlangga Psychology Internship is effective in improving graduates' competency in digital psychological assessment and intervention skills, as demonstrated by feedback from their supervising lecturers and field supervisors. Assessment of the study program's main performance indicators also showed that the program is effective in increasing the percentage of students participating in off-campus learning activities, the percentage of lecturers guiding students in activities outside the study program, the percentage of lecturers who have competency certificates recognized by the industrial world, and the percentage of lecturers who come from practitioners. Based on these results, the intensive training module was replicated for future implementation of similar programs.
