Description

Pest attacks continue to be a serious challenge in agriculture, resulting in decreased crop quality and economic losses for farmers. Despite the many pest management options available, chemical usage is not recommended for high-quality crops and profit maximization because of its severe environmental and health effects. To address this problem, the Solar Insect Trap has been introduced as an eco-friendly alternative for farmers. This product integrates green practices, featuring a solar-powered light that harnesses sunlight, along with a flexible design that allows for adjustable PVC height and easy placement. The tower includes a yellow container and sticky surface to attract insects both day and night. The main objectives of this project were to evaluate the effectiveness of the Solar Insect Trap in reducing pest populations on maize plants and to compare the insect-capturing efficiency of the Solar Insect Trap against conventional pest control methods. Weekly counts of the captured insects were documented, starting with 108 insects in the first week, 94 in the second week, 72 in the third week, and 49 by the fourth week. The research demonstrated a consistent reduction in pest numbers, providing evidence that the Solar Insect Trap is both effective and environmentally sustainable. These findings highlight its potential as a superior alternative to conventional chemical-based pest control methods.
