Description

This study aims to understand the similarities as well as differences by looking into and discussing the policy and governance of banks as well as the use of multiple measurements. These include ratio analysis and frontier analysis. Present study on Islamic finance focused on commercial Islamic banks (CIB) instead of Islamic Cooperative Banks (ICB). In theory, Islamic Cooperative Banks (ICB) may be able to outperform Commercial Islamic Banks (CIB), however, there is no proof from present literature to suggest that Islamic Cooperative Banks (ICB) are better or worse than Commercial Islamic Banks (CIB). Therefore, this study investigates the performance of both types of banks in Malaysia from year 2011 and 2024 which is a relatively stable period in Malaysia. By understanding the performance of both types of banks, this study can contribute in several ways. if the results favour Islamic Cooperative Banks (ICB) over Commercial Islamic Banks (CIB), then policymakers should encourage the creation of more Islamic Cooperative Banks (ICB) for the soundness of the local and international Islamic financial sector. This study provides an insight on the performance of Islamic Cooperative Banks (ICB) which can enhance presence literature about Islamic Cooperative Banks (ICB) which has been lacking.
