Description

Digital piracy poses a significant threat to Malaysia’s creative economy, particularly its rapidly growing animation sector. This paper examines how strategic anti-piracy enforcement can protect intellectual property (IP), secure revenue streams and strengthen Malaysia’s competitive position in the Southeast Asian creative economy. It evaluates existing legal frameworks, government initiatives, industry partnership and technological safeguards, highlighting their role in curbing piracy while fostering innovation and sustainable growth. The discussion underscores the need for adaptive legislation, robust IP management, and regional cooperation to address evolving piracy tactics. By integrating enforcement measures with cultural storytelling, public awareness and transnational collaboration, Malaysia can reinforce its animation industry’s economic resilience, preserve its cultural identity, and secure long-term international competitiveness.
