Abstract
This study explores the interrelationships between Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO), Market Orientation (MO), Leadership Qualities (LQ), and Organizational Performance (OP) among Bumiputera SMEs in Sabah, Malaysia. Anchored in the Resource-Based View (RBV), the research investigates how EO dimensions influence MO and OP directly and indirectly, with LQ acting as a moderator. Using a quantitative approach, 513 business owners across 22 districts in Sabah were surveyed. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS) revealed that EO significantly enhances all MO dimensions and contributes positively to OP, particularly through customer orientation and profit orientation. The study confirms the mediating role of MO in the EO–OP relationship and identifies specific moderating effects of LQ. These findings provide theoretical insights into strategic alignment in SMEs and offer practical pathways for enhancing SME capacity in emerging economies.
