Description
This case study describes the application of Gestalt Therapy with a young female client who presented with unresolved emotional distress. She struggled with persistent self-blame, emotional avoidance, and the belief that healing depended on external justice. These difficulties were influenced by invalidating family dynamics, experiences of physical punishment, and a challenging incident during adolescence. The intervention involved nine sessions focusing on awareness, emotional expression, and personal responsibility through Gestalt techniques such as the empty chair, symbolic letter writing, and emotional awareness worksheets. Over time, the client progressed from avoidance to emotional ownership, developed coping strategies, and created a self-support plan. This case study highlights the importance of structured, experiential methods that are sensitively adapted to client readiness when working with trauma and self-blame issues.
